Quiltsillustrated is a cottage industry pattern company primarily showcasing quilt and handbag designs by Penny Sturges. I design primarily using fabric designed by Holly Holderman for LakeHouse Dry Goods. Holly provides incredible fabric and sometimes even inspiration for my designs. When my box of new fabric arrives, it is a very exciting day! My friend, and sister-in-law, Jill Navlan spends many hours, days, and sometimes weeks(!) helping me meld Holly’s beautiful fabrics with my bag and quilt designs. Some of the handmade, one-of-a-kind bags for sale are created by Jill too. Next to designing and fabricating my bags, one of my favorite facets of the industry are the trade shows. You will find Jill and I behind the counter at the LakeHouse booth at both International Quilt Markets, held in the spring and fall. We get to write orders for shops across the country and around the world! We meet the nicest people. So much work, so much fun!
